I am confused by all these hosting plans, which one is right for me?

We currently offer six Premium Hosting plans, four Multiple Domain Hosting plans and four Reseller Hosting plans.

Premium Plans

The Premium Plans are our most popular plans and come with generous allowances of disk space and bandwidth. Our starter and basic plans are for web hosting only and do not include email facilities. This makes them ideal for a personal web site. Our other four premium plans all come with similar features but varying amounts of web space, e-mail accounts and monthly bandwidth. See a full list of the features on our plan detail page.

As a guide we suggest that for general web sites and start up commercial sites people choose our silver plan. This has enough features for most purposes and can be upgraded later, if required.

Our Premium Plans come with PHP and CGI as standard. Plans from Basic up include subdomains (which map subject1.yourdomain.com to files held on web space at yourdomain.com/subject1), multiple FTP accounts and multiple MySQL databases.

If you intend to distribute shareware or other large files then we suggest the Silver or larger plans because they come with more inclusive bandwidth.

Multiple Domains and Reseller Hosting

Our Reseller web hosting plans allows you to host an unlimited number of web sites for £29 per month. Larger plans are available (e.g., 100 sites for £39 per month). Each site can be up to 1000MB in size. This is ideal for web designers or anyone who needs to host several web sites.

Windows Web Hosting Plan

We will be launching windows web hosting in Autumn 2008. Windows hosting is a specialist product and should only be ordered if you require ASP. If you do not require ASP, please order a Premium web hosting plan which is easier to use and works perfectly with Windows and Apple computers.

Can you host international domains?

Yes, Hostroute.com can host any top level international domain. We can even register names for you in many country specific top level domains. See our sister website, Nameroute, for more information.

I want to sell things on my web site, will your shopping cart help me do this?

You need to start from the other end. Work out how you are going to process credit card transactions, then find a shopping cart that suits that method, then find a suitable hosting plan. If you are not an established business you will find it difficult to get a merchant account so you might be safer starting with Paypal. This has its own shopping cart which can be used with any of our hosting plans.

Do you offer a guarantee?

Can you host subdomains?

Yes! Our premium plans include up to 500 subdomains. For further information see our Premium Plans.

Do you offer annual prepayment?

Yes! If you are just starting out, but you think your site will expand, it is worth considering the annual prepayment option which brings the price of our larger plans down by around 20%!

How do I change web host to Hostroute?

To move your site without any interruption, just follow these instructions:

  1. Order web hosting from us.
  2. Upload your web site to the temporary address we give you.
  3. Contact the company you registered your domain name through and ask them to change the name servers to: ns.srv2.com and ns2.srv2.com (Holders of .co.uk domains may require our IPSTAG, which is “HOSTROUTE”)
  4. Once the name servers are changed it takes about 48 hours for the domain to move over to point to your new Hostroute account.
  5. When this is complete, contact your previous web host and cancel your account.

TIP: To know when the move is complete, add something to the version of the site uploaded to our temporary address, like an “@” at the bottom of the front page. That way you can tell if the domain is pointing to our
server or the old one.

Do you support ASP?

ASP was originally developed for the Windows operating system, and is only available on Windows hosting plans. Please contact us if you require this.

Do you support Microsoft FrontPage and SharePoint?

This is only supported on Windows hosting plans. Please contact us for advice.

Can I have MP3s or videos on my site?

Yes, provided you own the copyright on them.

Can I use an Apple Mac with Hostroute?

We are asked this a lot but it is not really a valid question. The Internet was designed to allow computers to communicate with each other regardless of operating system. This is done using standard protocols like SMTP and HTTP. As long as you have an Internet connection, a web browser (and you already have these if you are looking at this web page), and a web design program, you can use any web host and this includes Hostroute!

Why has my site been suspended?

The reason should be displayed in place of your web pages. Some common reasons are:

  1. “You have gone over your bandwidth allocation.” — You should monitor your bandwidth usage through the control panel every week or so and contact us if you are likely to go over your limit.
  2. “Your credit card has failed.” — If your credit card fails for monthly payments and you do not respond to our emails then we will suspend your site. Its possible we do not have an up to date email address for you. Please contact us if this happens. Sites suspended for non payment are deleted after 10 days unless you contact us to make other arrangements.
  3. “Your annual hosting plan has not been renewed.” — We send out one reminder per week for six weeks prior to the renewal date of annual plans. If you have not renewed we suspend the site for 10 days and then delete it. By suspending the site, we hope you will contact us with an up to date email address.
